Farmers notice Chinese buying spree

Farmers are noticing China’s streak of U.S. soybean purchases.

Shayne Isane of Badger in northern Minnesota tells Brownfield he’s pleased to see the uptick in buying.

“They definitely have a long ways to go, and we hope that they live up to their commitments under the Phase One (deal). So I guess all we can do is remain optimistic. Like I said, there’s going to have to be a lot of purchases. And we’re hopeful.”

The favorable market response has provided farmers selling opportunities.

“We’ve seen a little price spike here in soybeans and (now) corn, and we certainly hope that can continue with more exports.”

Isane is a Minnesota Farm Bureau board director who grows corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, perennial rye grass, sunflowers, oats, and also has a cow/calf operation.
