Cool Michigan temps bring first hard frost
Michigan crops faced their first frost of the season last week and some farmers are reporting crop damage. The U.S. Drought Monitor has left abnormally dry condition ratings unchanged at 18 percent.
The USDA says 91 percent of corn is dented, 37 percent is mature, and condition improved five three points to 56 percent good to excellent. Soybeans are 71 percent dropping leaves, and condition remained steady at 62 percent good to excellent.
As of Sunday, 42 percent of dry beans and 54 percent of sugarbeets were in good to excellent condition. Corn silage is 73 percent harvested, dry beans are eight percent, and sugarbeets are 25 percent finished.
Harvest continues for apples and fall vegetables.
