Farmers Union, MANRRS partner to strengthen diversity in agriculture

National Farmers Union is partnering with Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences to strengthen diversity and inclusion in the industry.

NFU President Rob Larew and National President Antomia Farrell signed a memorandum of understanding on ways the organizations will provide educational and leadership opportunities for young people of all racial and ethnic identities and develop federal policy priorities.

Larew says the lack of racial and ethnic diversity in agriculture translates to a lack of new ideas and perspectives. He says together they hope to ensure that the next generation of ag leaders will be more representative of the American population.

Farrell says the fact that communicates of color are not well represented in agriculture is not because they aren’t interested. She says it’s often because they don’t have access or exposure started from an early age and often don’t know ag professions are an option.
