Southern Wisconsin farmer: Corn silage now, soybeans soon

A southern Wisconsin farmer says he’s spending most of his time this week harvesting corn silage, but he won’t have much of a break between harvests.

Doug Rebout farms near Janesville, Wisconsin. “We’ll be working on that here for the better part of this week. Soybeans, it looks like they’re drying up pretty quick so if we get some heat this week, I’ve got a feeling here that within a week and a half here, we might be out combining soybeans.”

Rebout says last week’s rains slowed fieldwork, but he needed the rain. “But it was also much-needed rain. It just put some more moisture in the ground and let our corn dry up the way it’s supposed to instead of drying up too quick. That way, we get those better test weights.”

Rebout is the President of the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association. He says overall, his crops look good this year.
