National Farmers Union members address key issues during virtual fly-in

COVID-19 has not stopped National Farmers Union members from discussing ag issues with US legislators.

NFU President Rob Larew tells Brownfield more than 400 members from across the country are meeting with legislators virtually this week in place of their annual DC fly-in event.

“It is about giving farmers and ranchers a fair shape. We need reform to the markets to make sure they are real and we need policies that support rural communities opposed to putting them at further disadvantages.”

Larew says hearing directly from farmers makes a big impact.

“It is one thing to have a lobbyist in DC that goes in and talks to a member of congress, but hearing directly from the farm voice – that is absolutely critical.”

He says they are focusing on ag issues like product labeling and ethanol policy while also making sure rural communities are not left behind on things like infrastructure and postal services.
