Homecoming Week Activities At Muscatine High School

Muscatine High school has announced their plans for the 2020 Homecoming events:

Monday, September 14th @ 7:00 PM- Junior and Senior girls will be competing in their annual Powder Puff Football Game. It will take place on the turf field. The entry fee is $3, and there is limited space on the bleachers so please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Masks and social distancing are required.

Thursday, September 17th @ 6:00 PM- The annual Homecoming Parade will go from Grant Elementary to MHS. There will be no candy thrown and the crowds are required to social distance.

Thursday, September 17th @ 7:00 PM- The 2020 Coronation Ceremony will be held on the MHS Football Field (weather permitting). Spectators are allowed but they again will need to be socially distanced and wearing masks when not space. They will be crowning homecoming King & Queen at this time.

Friday, September 18th, @ 3:00 PM- MHS students/staff Pep Assembly during the school day. We are going to be doing the pep assembly out on the track to help with social distancing.

Friday, September 18th, @ 7:15 PM- MHS hosts Davenport West for the homecoming football game. Homecoming court including King and Queen will be presented before kick-off.

Post-Secondary Plans: Attend college with an undecided major while participating in football or wrestling.

Veyda Matos 

Parents: Mizraim and Courtney Acosta

Involvement: National Honors Society, Volleyball, dance, the Student Council Exec Board, Nexus, FCA, and I work at the Coffee Belt.

Post-Secondary Plans: To attend the University of Iowa and major in Environmental Engineering.

Elisha Gaye:

Parents: Grandma Cecelia Gaye, Dad Elijah Tiah

Involvement: Football, Track, Soccer, Basketball

Post-Secondary Plans: Undecided

Maria Villatoro

Parents: Josue and Monica Villatoro

Involvement: Pom team, Show Choir, Chamber Choir, Dance at Miss Lousie, Serving at Calvary, National Honors Society, Musicals, FCA

Post-Secondary Plans: Attend Iowa State to pursue communications

Joshua Thomas 

Parents: Allison and Ty Thomas

Involvement:  Football, FCA, and Calvary Church.

Post-Secondary Plans: Study spanish abroad in Costa Rica

Kaylynn Salyars 

Parents:

Duane and Amanda Salyars

Involvement: Varsity softball, Eastern Iowa Barracudas Softball, Varsity Volleyball, Travel volleyball teams, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Nexus Church Group, Student Section Leader

Post-Secondary Plans: Attend Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to play softball and earn my AA education then transfer to a 4 year school.

Trevor Deidreichs 

Parents: Joel and Audra Diederichs

Involvement: Cross Country, Basketball, Track, Student Section Leader, National Honors Society

Post-Secondary Plans: Either attending MCC for a year or two years and transferring to UNI or attending UNI straight out of high school to major in Construction Management.

Sophia Emmert 

Parents: Andy and Kendall Emmert

Involvement:  Volleyball, basketball and tennis her freshman year. She participates in the FCA Leadership Team, Student Council, RCR, Orchestra Leadership Team, NHS, Nexus, Calvary Worship Team, auditioned for All-State Choir, plays cello in Chamber and Symphony orchestra, and leads a small group of 4th grade girls on Sunday mornings, while also working a part time job.

Post-Secondary Plans:  To attend Cedarville Christian University in Ohio in the fall of ‘21, where she will major in Intercultural Studies. She hopes to study abroad and get as much cross-cultural experience as possible to help her prepare for full-time overseas ministry when she graduates college.

Togeh Doesh 

Parents: Naplansa Zlan and Oscar Sewing, will be escorted by Alissa and Drew Burcamper

Involvement: Wrestling, Football and Track and Field

Post-Secondary Plans: Plans to attend college somewhere but it is still undecided where

Hallie Hansen 

Parents: Jeff and Marcie Hanssen

Involvement: Freshmen and sophomore volleyball, Key Club, Student Council, the dance team, the girl’s track team, and National Honor Society

Post-Secondary Plans:  I plan to attend Iowa State University to pursue a veterinary degree and to try out for their dance team.
