MO-AG urges EPA to publish dicamba’s new registration
The head of the Missouri Agribusiness Association (MO-AG) is asking the EPA to publish new conditional registration decisions for dicamba products soon. Steve Taylor tells Brownfield seed and pesticide companies and farmers can’t wait.
“When I heard that EPA intends to wait until the end of October and what I was hearing from (our) membership, we decided to address that with EPA, wrote a letter to the EPA encouraging them not to wait that long – to go in and make a decision.”
Taylor says seed companies book seed in September and need to know what volumes of different soybeans they need before harvest to secure their supply. And, he says, if growers don’t know what herbicides are registered for use before October, it’s a hardship for them as well.
Taylor says MO-Ag understands the complexity of the 9th Circuit Court decision on dicamba products and the mess it is causing but the problems will only get worse if regulatory integrity is not restored in the FIFRA laws, “The courts can’t just step in and start messing with this all the time and expect growers and the folks like the MO-AG members, the seed and pesticide dealers, to be able to serve the farmer customers.”
Taylor says EPA needs to use the data it’s been given and reregister the dicamba products.
