USDA names new administrator of Economic Research Service

Dr. Spiro Stefanou has been named the new administrator of USDA’s Economic Research Service.

Deputy Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics Scott Hutchins says Stefanou’s leadership will help usher in a new era for ERS as they continue to deliver scientifically sound data and research to shape US ag policy and serve their stakeholders across the nation.

Stefanou taught agriculture economics for more than 35 years at both the University of Florida and Penn State University. He has been named a Fellow at several foreign institutions including the University of Crete in Greece and the European University Institute in Italy. He is also a past editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and is currently the Managing Editor of Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy.
