Nebraska farmer says heat probably took top end off of yields

An eastern Nebraska farmer says last week’s hot temperatures probably hurt potential corn and soybean yields, especially for the non-irrigated crops.

But Quentin Connealy, who farms in the Missouri River bottoms near Tekamah, Nebraska, says the irrigated crops still look very good.

“I think we lost some top-end yields last week with that 90-degree heat but I think we’ll be sitting all right,” Connealy says. “Dryland will be losing it but irrigated should be above average. I think we kept up.”

Connealy says he irrigated twice as much this summer as he normally does.
