Illinois crops round out August 70-72% G-E

Illinois crops have rounded out August with desirable good to excellent ratings from the USDA.

As of Sunday, Illinois corn is rated 70% good to excellent, a drop of two percentage points from the week before. 97% of the crop has reached the dough stage with 71% dented and 12% mature- all ahead or in line with the five-year-average.

Illinois soybeans are rated 72% good to excellent, only a one-point drop on the week. 97% of soybeans are setting pods, three points ahead of average.

Soil moisture is adequate at best across the state with portions of central and northern Illinois categorized abnormally dry or in moderate drought by the US Drought Monitor.
