Flooding continues to impact China farmland

An ag meteorologist says China’s farmland continues to be impacted by flooding.

“China has of course been dealing with a lot of flooding along the Yangtze River,” he says. “There has been concern about how that flooding might eventually effect the farmland that surrounds it.”

But, Eric Snodgrass with Nutrien Ag Solutions says only about 15 percent of China’s corn and soybean crop is in that river valley.

“Most of the crop is in the northern China plain and they’ve had pretty good moisture and decent temperatures this year which are not going to necessarily cause a major domestic shortage due to this year’s production in corn in that area,” he says.

Snodgrass says he’ll continue to monitor the impact on production.
