Corn silage harvest underway in Minnesota

Corn silage harvest is underway in Minnesota.

The latest crop report from USDA says there was some chopping in areas short on feed supplies.

Corn at the dough stage or beyond is now 91 percent, more than two weeks ahead of last year and a week ahead of the five-year average.

Corn rated good to excellent was down slightly on the week at 82 percent.

Soybeans turning color is at 7 percent, nine days faster than 2019 and about even with normal.

Eighty-two percent of the crop is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.

About a quarter of the spring wheat has been harvested, oats are 88 percent cut, and the barley harvest reached 89 percent as of Sunday.

Potato farmers are also harvesting their crop, but there are no official reports of sugarbeet harvest yet.
