Nebraska farmer says irrigated crops are doing ‘exceptionally well’

Central Nebraska farmer Alvin Kowalski says their irrigated crops are doing “exceptionally well”.  But it has required a little more effort this summer, compared to last year.

“Last year we got a little spoiled with all the rain and didn’t irrigate hardly anything,” Kowalski says. “So this year it was a little tougher to get out there and get things running in a timely manner.”

Kowalski, who farms with family just east of Grand Island, expects above-average yields from their irrigated crops but says non-irrigated crops may be below-average in yield.

“As of right now, dryland looks pretty tough in our area, other than some recent rains.  But the irrigated crop looks exceptionally well.”

In this interview with Brownfield, Kowalski also talks about how he utilizes a drone in their farming operation.
