SE Missouri farmer says crops in good shape

A southeast Missouri farmer says his crops look really good. Patrick Seyer of Seyer Farms in Oran, Missouri says wet weather slowed down planting this spring.

“Fortunately, we ended up with a pretty good stand on pretty much all of our corn. Beans, we had to replant a few hundred acres back over. We’d get done planting and catch a big rain right on top of it.”

Seyer tells Brownfield his soybeans and rice also look good. And even though some rust was found on his corn, they didn’t have to spray fungicide.

“We didn’t have the rust come through early enough showing any signs of needing to do anything. So, it saved us a pretty good piece of change on that end of it.”

Ninety-percent of Seyer’s crops are irrigated. He says harvest is about a week to 10 days behind normal so they’ll begin harvest most likely in early September.

Seyer is a new member of the Missouri Corn Growers Association Board.
