USDA to resurvey Iowa corn, soybean crops

The USDA will be resurveying corn and soybean acreage in Iowa because of damage from last week’s derecho.

The storm damaged several million acres of cropland in Iowa alone and the USDA’s good to excellent rating on Iowa’s corn crop dropped 10% following the storm, while the good to excellent category for soybeans fell 8%.

Iowa is the biggest producer of corn and second leading producer of soybeans, with combined harvested area for both crops currently projected at 22.87 million acres.

If the resurvey warrants changes, the adjusted estimates will be in the September 11th production update.
