MN Farm Bureau VP comfortable with trade rhetoric as long as China keeps buying

The vice president of Minnesota Farm Bureau says when it comes to trade with China, the proof is in the purchases.

Dan Glessing, a crop and dairy farmer from Waverly in central Minnesota, tells Brownfield he doesn’t get caught up in the rhetoric.

“The sales are saying everything. I think there’s a lot of talk, which is fine. But we had a record sale of corn, and the soybean orders keep on coming. I think there’s more to be said for the actions as opposed to the talk.”

He calls Phase One a good step and says he’s confident the U.S. will continue to get more of the Chinese market back.

“We want to make sure we keep the market share, because once you lose it it’s hard to get it back. So that’s my take is sales are saying it all, and I just think sometimes we make too much of all the talk, if you will.”

China’s latest buying activity included nearly 200,000 tons of U.S. corn Tuesday.
