Illinois ag leaders commemorate Agriculture Day

Today would have been Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair and Brownfield caught up with a couple of the state’s ag leaders to commemorate the event.

Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert says ag day is a good time to reflect on the past year, imagining COVID-19, crop conditions and the recent derecho windstorm would be hot topics.

“We’re just experiencing a whole new life you might say with the coronavirus and the challenges here in agriculture that we face.”

Illinois Director of Agriculture Jerry Costello tells Brownfield his favorite part of ag day is talking to 4-H and FFA youth and showcasing the family aspect of agriculture.

“I cannot wait until we have the 2021 Illinois State Fair. It will be that much better to all gather together and I know we will all enjoy it that much more.”

Costello says they are looking forward to hosting youth livestock shows at the fairgrounds next month for those exhibitors missing out on the 2020 Illinois and DuQuoin State Fairs.
