Weather almost ideal for Wisconsin haying, combining
Wisconsin farmers had a few brief showers last week, but it was mostly ideal for haying and combining.
The third cutting of alfalfa is 72% finished. The state’s all hay condition is 81% good to excellent, and pasture conditions are 68% good to excellent.
The USDA says 63% of Wisconsin’s corn is now at the dough stage, which is almost a week ahead of average. The corn condition improved with 84% now reported as good to excellent.
Eighty-three percent of soybeans have set pods, and the crop is 85% good to excellent statewide.
Potato harvesters are picking up the pace, with 20% of the state’s crop now in storage. Potatoes are rated 98% good to excellent, which is up eight points from last week.
The winter wheat harvest is now 94% complete.
