U.S. & China to review phase one trade progress Saturday
The U.S. and China will spend the weekend reviewing the phase one trade agreement Saturday.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and the Chinese Vice Premier will be speaking by video conference about the goals of the agreement, and where each side is in achieving them.
Lighthizer’s team will want China to comply with its promise to buy 200-billion dollars more from the U.S. than it did in 2017, including 40 billion a year in agricultural products this year and next year.
Tension has grown between the two countries in part because of the coronavirus outbreak and China’s actions in Hong Kong. China’s Assistant Ministry of Commerce has asked the U.S. to end its restrictions on China and create a more positive atmosphere for implementing the trade deal, including what China calls discriminatory action against Chinese companies.
