Parson kicks off livestock shows at pared down Missouri State Fair

Governor Mike Parson highlighted the livestock shows taking place at the Missouri State Fair on opening day.

Parson says the shows are critical for the fellowship of youth in the state.

“Our kids need to be doing something, they need to be out here showing livestock, they need to be together as we move forward in this state,” Parson said.

Parson says efforts from ag leaders in the state, including Ag Director Chris Chinn and State Fair Director Mark Wolfe, were required to make the shows possible.

“This is a tough task, this is a tough time and people have to step up sometimes for the challenge that we face,” he said. “To have this state fair, people had to step up.”

This year’s livestock shows run through August 23rd with free parking and admission. Masks are available at the gates and sanitization and hand washing stations have been added around the fairgrounds.

The Governor’s decision to hold the entire state fair in early June was later changed to livestock shows only as COVID-19 cases increased.
