Walmart and Sam’s Club prioritize beef sustainability goals
Top executives with Walmart and Sam’s Club says they will make soil health, animal welfare and responsible antibiotic use priorities in their beef sustainability goals.
A blog post says they’ll keep working with suppliers to improve grain sourcing and grazing management practices while upholding their suppliers to the so-called “Five Freedoms” for animal welfare.
Walmart put forth goals in 2016 with a promise of committing to more sustainability in sourcing 20 commodities, including beef, by 2025.
The executives say they’ve learned a lot from farmers and ranchers who are stewards of the land, and, the industry needs to support efforts “to maximize the positive effects of cattle production.”
