Corn and beans look “great”
A central Kentucky farmer says his corn and beans look great and he expects big yields.
Caleb Ragland tells Brownfield he planted corn from early January to early June because of a lot of wet weather and he sees nearly unlimited potential for the crop, “A couple weeks ago, Kentucky had the highest crop ratings on the corn crop of any state which, we don’t have that many acres but it was kind of neat to see us up there at the top which we’re not normally.”
As for his beans, Ragland says most were planted in April and are looking really good, “The pod counts I’ve seen on my own farm and others are just astronomical. We also grow a lot of double crop soybeans after wheat and most of them are already fully canopied. I’m not going to give a report that’s good for the market going up but it does look like we’re going to get a lot of bushels.”
Ragland, who grows corn, soybeans, wheat, and raises pigs near Magnolia Kentucky, is on the board of the American Soybean Association.
