Ag outcomes likely to vary depending on winner of November election
Commodity leaders are discussing how the outcome of November’s general election might affect agriculture the next four years.
During a Minnesota Farmfest virtual town hall Wednesday coordinated in part by Farmers for Free Trade, CHS Hedging senior vice president of global grain marketing John Griffith boiled down another term for President Trump as more of the same.
“And I think that’s fairly aggressive, as we’ve seen, with trade policies, tariffs, and practices. A more protectionist lean. So I think we know what that looks like.”
Under a Biden presidency, he suspects there’d be more of a focus on climate.
“Maybe that would give some lift to the biofuels story lines, and help that industry out a little bit. And I think you’d see a tempered trade versus what we’ve seen with the Trump Administration.”
Which Griffith says would be favorable to CHS because sustainability and predictability are very important.
