NCBA eyeing the UK for next free-trade agreement

Now that the trade deals with Canada and Mexico, Japan, and China are completed Kent Bacus, director of international trade and market access with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says they’re turning their attention to the United Kingdom.   “As they leave those EU rules, we need them to embrace science-based trade and market-based trade,” he says.  “And abandoned those practices that they’ve been under for the last 40-years.”

He tells Brownfield they want a new agreement with the UK to set an example for the rest of the world.  “If you can throw off the shackles of protectionism, and you can be engaged in science-based and market-based trade, and allow your producers to truly be competitive than you can be successful,” he says.

Bacus made his comments from the Cattle Industry Summer Industry Convention in Denver, Colorado.
