Rains boost conditions of Arkansas crops

Light to moderate rain fell across the state, providing a boost to crop conditions.

Seventy-one percent of the rice crop is rated good to excellent and 28 percent is headed.  Eighty-seven percent of the cotton crop is rated good to excellent, 99 percent is squaring, and 88 percent is setting bolls. 

Soybeans are rated 69 percent good to excellent with 88 percent blooming and 63 percent setting pods.  Corn is rated 75 percent good to excellent with 76 percent in the dough stage, and 42 percent dented. 

Ninety-three percent of peanuts are rated good to excellent with 85 percent pegging. 

Alfalfa is rated 44 percent good to excellent with 65 percent of the second cutting completed.  Vegetables are rated 66 percent good to excellent

Fifty-five percent of Topsoil and 59 percent of Subsoil are called adequate to surplus.
