Illinois crops benefit from good weather week

Most Illinois crops had adequate moisture and growing conditions last week.

As of Sunday, USDA reporters say 89% of the corn is silking, which is 5% ahead of average.  Twenty-two percent is in the dough stage.  The state’s corn is rated 60% good, 21% fair, but only 14% excellent.

Soybeans are behind schedule for blooming, with 67% blooming now.  That’s seven percent below average.  Thirty-six percent of the soybeans are setting pods.  Sixty-one percent of the soybeans are in good condition, with 19% fair and 15% reported as excellent.

The Winter wheat harvest is now 97% finished.
