GOP pandemic aid plan could include 20 Billion for farmers

A one-trillion-dollar coronavirus relief bill could be released by Senate Republicans today and would potentially include $20-Billion for agriculture.

Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota told Agri-Pulse the direct appropriation to USDA would compensate livestock and poultry producers and ethanol plants – as well as pay for more direct payment to farmers. That money would be on top of the $14 Billion in new borrowing authority through the Commodity Credit Corporation that the USDA could use to keep sending stimulus checks to producers.

Hoeven, who chairs the Senate Ag Appropriations subcommittee, says the Commodity Credit Corporation would likely be boosted by another $30-Billion-dollars through a continuing resolution this fall.
