USDA releases report on its cattle market investigation

The USDA has released a long-awaited report on its investigation of boxed beef and fed cattle markets in the aftermath of last year’s Tyson Holcomb fire and this year’s COVID-19 pandemic.

The report does not accuse any individual or entity of violating the agency’s Packers and Stockyards Act. But it says the findings thus far “do not preclude the possibility” that violations occurred.

USDA says its investigation will continue and that it is cooperating with the Department of Justice Antitrust Division on its investigation of anticompetitive practices in the meatpacking industry.
