Global Dairy Trade index down Tuesday
The Global Dairy Trade index fell Tuesday after making gains in the previous four trading sessions.
After a July 7th jump of 8.3%, the price index fell seven-tenths of a percent to an average price of $3,201 a metric ton.
The only two products showing price gains were Cheddar cheese and whole milk powder. Cheese prices rose six-tenths of a percent to $3,803 a ton or $1.72 a pound. Whole milk powder was also up six-tenths of a percent to $3,218 a ton or $1.45 per pound.
Butter took the biggest fall Tuesday with prices down 4.9% to $3,533 a ton or $1.60 per pound. Anhydrous milk fat fell 2.8% to $3,870 a ton or $1.75 per pound. Lactose prices were down 2.5% to $1,279 a ton or $0.58 per pound. Skim milk powder was down half a percent to $2,680 a ton or $1.21 per pound.
