Last week’s heat & moisture was good for Wisconsin’s crops

Wisconsin crops had plenty of heat and moisture last week.  USDA reporters say it was great weather for pollinating corn and soybeans, but not so good for drying hay.

As of Sunday, 81% of corn was rated good to excellent with 34% silking.

Seventy-three percent of Wisconsin’s soybeans are blooming, ten days ahead of average and 22 days ahead of last year.  Eighty-three percent of the soybeans are in good to excellent condition.

Eighty-four percent of oats are good to excellent with most of the oats headed now.  Ninety-four percent of the potato crop is good to excellent.  Most all of the state’s winter wheat has turned color, and 9% of the wheat for grain has been harvested.

Three-quarters of Wisconsin’s farmers have cut their second-crop hay.
