Missouri experiencing some drought conditions
An East-Central Missouri farmer says this growing season has been one of the most extreme he’s been a part of.
Josh Johnson tells Brownfield his crops have seen multiple wet and dry swings this season and are currently being hit by drought conditions.
“We were bleeding, we’re starting to hemorrhage now,” he said. “When you’re dry and 85 [degrees] and humid is not too bad, like we have today, but tomorrow is going to be in the 90’s, ugh.”
The Montgomery County farmer said hot temperatures paired with dry soil is taking its toll on his corn crop.
But he said the dry conditions have been scattered.
“Just a week or two ago, in Audrain County, we were driving through water over the road, a flash flood basically” he said. “We drove five miles north of there and went to work in the field.”
Johnson says while any amount of rain would help, he says most of his ground could take at least three inches of water without having any runoff.
