Minnesota crop conditions steady despite isolated severe weather

Minnesota crop conditions remain very good and development is staying ahead of normal.

The latest weekly USDA report says as of Sunday, 85 percent of corn and 83 percent of soybeans are rated good to excellent.

Corn silking reached 21 percent, two days ahead of the five-year average.

Sixty-seven percent of soybeans are blooming, more than two weeks ahead of last year and nine days ahead of normal.

There were some reports of crop damage in the west-central part of the state caused by high winds and hail.

Spring wheat is 94 percent headed, with 76 percent called good to excellent.

The condition of sugarbeets remains at 95 percent good to excellent.

And the second cutting of alfalfa hay is 56 percent complete, one week ahead of last year and a day faster than normal.
