Little variation in Illinois crop conditions last week

Crop conditions showed little variation last week even with above average temperatures statewide.

Corn is rated 61% good to excellent, the same as the previous week. While soybeans dropped four percentage points at 59% good to excellent.

As of Sunday, the USDA reports 36% of the corn crop is silking, compared to the five-year average of 52% with 1% reaching the dough stage. Meanwhile, 37% of the soybean crop is blooming, three points behind average, with 10% setting pods.   

Winter wheat harvest is nearing the finish line at 89% complete, slightly ahead of last year but a bit behind average.

Topsoil moisture is 72% and subsoil moisture is 77% adequate to surplus with the weekly precipitation total nearly two tenths above average.
