Iowa’s corn rating slips two points

Last week’s hot and dry weather has resulted in a two percentage point decrease in Iowa’s corn rating.

The corn crop is rated 83 percent good to excellent this week, compared to 85 percent last week. Soybean condition also dropped slightly, from 84 to 83 percent.

Silking on corn reached 35 percent and there were scattered reports of corn reaching the dough stage. Soybeans blooming reached 58 percent and ten percent of soybeans were setting pods.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 61 percent and hay conditions rated 76 percent good to excellent. Pasture condition rated 65 percent good to excellent.
