Iowa representatives introduce cattle marketing bill

Three members of the U.S. House of Representatives from Iowa have introduced legislation to increase transparency and price discovery in the cattle industry.

The bill, introduced by Democratic Representatives Cindy Axne, Abby Finkenauer and Dave Loebsack, would require processors to have a minimum of 50 percent of their weekly slaughter purchased from negotiated cash market sales.

The bill is a companion to a Senate bill introduced earlier this year by Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst.
