CDC says 9% of meat and poultry plant workers infected with COVID

The Centers for Disease Control this week said nine-percent of meat and poultry plant workers in 14 states have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

The report contains responses from 28 state health departments, five of which did not report any confirmed cases tied to meat processing workers.

At the end of May, the CDC says 86 deaths were reported in meat or poultry plants across 23 states.

The agency found that only 86 of the 111 plants with information about worker protections required ALL workers to wear face coverings. Sixty-nine of those plants installed physical barriers between workers. And only about 40% offered COVID-19 tests to their workers. Most of the cases were among racial minority and ethnic workers.
