Muscatine mayor to hold news conference Sunday on mandatory mask order

Muscatine Mayor Diana Broderson will hold a news conference Sunday to announce a mandatory face-mask proclamation for the city, according to an announcement sent by city spokesman Kevin Jenison.

As of Thursday morning, Muscatine County has had 623 COVID-19 cases since testing began in March and there have been 44 deaths.

“As positive cases of Covid-19 start to escalate again, please do the one thing that we know works – wear a mask when you leave your home,” Broderson said in her daily Facebook update. “This is one prevention method that concrete data supports. We do not want to have things in our county start to close again as we are seeing in other places.”

Evidence-based studies support the effectiveness of wearing a mask to not only minimize community spread but maximize the opportunity to keep our businesses and organizations open to the public, she said.

“A recent report by Goldman Sachs demonstrates that wearing a mask could very well save our economy. Let’s do what we can to proactively keep our county running and our people safe.”
