May corn for ethanol use down sharply on year

The USDA says 299.934 million bushels of corn were used for ethanol production in May.

That is up 22% from April, but down 35% from May 2019 because of slow blending demand caused by stay at home orders and travel restrictions related to COVID-19.

Production of distillers dried grains with solubles was 1.234 million tons, 22% more than the previous month, but 37% less than the year before.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out July 10th.
