73% of U.S. corn, 71% of soybeans good to excellent
The USDA’s national condition ratings for corn and soybeans improved slightly over the past week.
As of Sunday, 73% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, up 1% on the week, with 4% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 7%.
71% of U.S. soybeans are called good to excellent, 1% higher than a week ago, with 95% of the crop emerged and 14% blooming, both faster than average.
41% of winter wheat is harvested, matching the usual pace, and 52% of the crop is rated good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
36% of spring wheat has headed, compared to 45% on average, with 69% in good to excellent condition, a week to week drop of 6%.
35% of cotton is squaring, compared to 36% normally in late June, and 9% are setting bolls, compared to 7% on average, while 41% of the crop is called good to excellent, 1% more than a week ago.
14% of rice has headed, compared to the five-year average of 13%, and 74% of the crop is rated good to excellent, also up 1% on the week.
96% of sorghum is planted, a little faster than normal, and 21% has headed, a little slower than usual, with 45% in good to excellent shape, 2% lower.
42% of pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 1% less than a week ago.
The USDA’s 2020 planted area totals are out Tuesday at Noon Eastern/11 Central.
