AFBF survey: Americans support COVID-19 relief to farmers

A new American Farm Bureau Federation survey shows 84 percent of Americans support providing governmental financial assistance to farmers who are struggling because of the pandemic.

The poll also reveals that a majority of Americans, 59 percent, believe the federal government should classify U.S. agriculture as a matter of national security to ensure a stable food supply.

Farm Bureau spokesperson Terri Moore says the survey results should show lawmakers they’re on the right track with the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) and other forms of ag assistance. It also sends a signal that farmers who were left out of the first round of CFAP, and those who are experiencing losses after the April 15th cutoff date, also deserve help, she says.
