EPA restarts Farm, Ranch, and Rural advisory committee

The EPA has appointed 33 members to its Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Committee, which has been vacant since 2016.

Carrie Woods is the agriculture advisor to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and tells Brownfield Ag News, “I think it’s really part of President Trump’s commitment to agriculture and rural America and also to Administrator Wheeler who since he has been at EPA has been very clear that one of his priorities is to restore trust with the ag community.”

Meadows says all ag topics are open for discussion among the members who are farmers and allied business people, academia, and state, local and tribal government representatives, “Water and air quality issues to pesticides, emergency response which we are now uniquely positioned for, I would think. But, lots of other topics that are environmentally important and how they pertain, uniquely, to agriculture in rural communities.”

Meadows says most of the 33 members, out of 150 nominations, are active in farming. They will serve two-to-three-year terms. The committee was established in 2008.
