Missouri high court upholds CAFO permit

The Missouri Supreme Court has upheld the state Clean Water Commission’s permit approving a concentrated animal feed operation in northwest Missouri in Grundy County. The group ‘Hickory Neighbors United’ challenged the state’s water permit for Trenton Farms LLC to run a large hog operation. The group argued over technical terms of a state law and the way a flood study was handled.  In the high court’s unanimous decision Tuesday, it ruled sufficient evidence supports the commission’s decision about the CAFO’s protection from a 100-year flood and any related risk of manure spillage.
