An historic planting season for Iowa farmer

A north-central Iowa farmer says he made history this spring.

Ben Pederson of Lake Mills tells Brownfield it was a hectic planting season.

“But we really had the best season we’ve had in memory. We planted every single acre without having to go around a wet spot, and that is downright historic.”

He says a warm, dry start gave way to cooler and wetter conditions through mid-May. But overall…

“We really look pretty stinkin good right now.”

Pederson is tempering hopes of a bumper crop with a recognition that  huge production will further depress prices.
