Iowa ag secretary Naig comments on dicamba and long-term challenges

Iowa ag secretary Mike Naig says he is glad EPA is allowing farmers to use existing stocks of dicamba products to finish out the 2020 growing season.

But Naig says he also concerned about what the future holds, not only for dicamba, but for other crop protection products as well.

“I think that’s at stake here, too—we need to have a science-based regulatory process that is defensible and transparent,” Naig says. “It’s really important that we keep that bigger picture here. It’s important for this product but also for all of the products that our farmers rely on.”

Naig says he expects the companies that produce and market dicamba herbicides will continue to pursue the re-registration of those products. But he says it remains to be seen how that plays out.
