Record-setting dairy exports to Southeast Asia continue

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says record exports of dairy products to Southeast Asia along with improving whey demand from China continues to push U.S. exports higher.

Shipments in April were up seven percent on the year and were valued at $521 million, up four percent.

Nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder exports were up 20 percent from last year, whey exports increased by 14 percent as China worked to rebuild their swineherd, and U.S. exporters experienced tariff relief on whey permeate.

Cheese exports declined by 18 percent mostly tied to a lack of demand from foodservice as coronavirus spread globally.

Shipments to Southeast Asia were up 35 percent and up 47 percent to China.
