Farmer says he’ll have to replant more crops than he originally thought

After scouting fields yesterday, Western Indiana Farmer Kevin Cox says he is going to have to replant more crops than he had hoped.

“The wet weather hurt us worse than what we thought,” he says. “It will be a couple of days at least of replanting beans and then we will may have to replant some corn.”

As far as how much he’ll have to replant…“twenty percent or so of the soybeans looks like they’re going to have to be replanted at least,” he says.

Cox says it’s a hard call to make.

“When it comes to replanting, that is the hardest decision to make in farming in my opinion because you just don’t know and you don’t want to gamble with the fact that there might be enough there and then at harvest find out there wasn’t and then at that point it’s way too late to do anything,” he says. “It’s just a real challenge.”

Cox grows corn and soybeans in Clay and Parke counties.
