Illinois county fair cancellations rise, state fairs still in limbo

Impacts from COVID-19 continue to influence Illinois county fair cancellations.

As the calendar turns to June, 25 county fairs across the state have been postponed or cancelled. In social media announcements fair board members have cited several determining factors including health and safety of fairgoers, government limitations on fairs and festivals and financial feasibility.

Many fair boards are working to potentially host their fair later in 2020 or organize shows for junior livestock exhibitors.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture says a decision has not yet been made on whether or not the Illinois State Fair scheduled for August 13-23 and the DuQuoin state Fair scheduled for August 28- September 7 will continue as planned.
