Japan to reduce nonfat dry milk imports
Japan intends to reduce nonfat dry milk imports, but still meet commitments under its trade agreement with the U.S.
The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries announced it has revised planned imports of nonfat dry milk from 4,000 metric tons to just 750 metric tons for fiscal year 2020.
The Ministry says the reduction is a result of increasing domestic production due to low demand of fresh milk during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Japan committed to reserve 750 metric tons of nonfat dry milk imports to fulfill terms of its trade deal with the U.S.
Japanese butter imports will remain at 20,000 metric tons.
