Cherry growers, processors vote to continue marketing order

Tart cherry producers and processors have voted to renew their federal marketing order for another six years.  The Cherry Industry Administrative Board is based in Michigan, where most of the nation’s cherries are grown but includes growers from Wisconsin and five other states.

The CIAB was created in 1996, and the board funds production and processing research, market research and development, promotional activities, and paid advertising.  The board also has the authority to authorize volume control authority in the form of reserve pool in times of heavy cherry supplies. They can also create cherry grade and size regulations.

The 18-member board has 6 producer members, 8 handler members, 3 members who can be either producers or handlers, and 1 public member.
