Farmer could be looking at prevent plant again this year

A southwest Missouri farmer says he could be looking at prevent plant acres again this year.

Kyle Kirby grows corn and soybeans and his fields have been inundated with rain again this year, “Along one of my corn fields now, I’ve been counting the population and you look across the road and it was idle last year and it’s going to be idle again this year. And so, I don’t know… We just HAVE to get some dry weather.”

Kirby says they need to get one full week without rain but it’s been pouring down at least every two to three days.  He has most of his corn planted but hasn’t started soybeans.

Last year, Kirby took about 10% of his acres in prevent plant.
